Aftercare Guidelines
Proper aftercare helps your body get the most benefit from your shockwave therapy and supports your natural healing process. Please follow these recommendations after your session:
Hydration & Warm Fluids
-
Drink plenty of water throughout the day to help your body flush out metabolic waste released during treatment.
-
Choose warm, non-caffeinated drinks such as herbal teas to promote circulation and relaxation.
-
Avoid alcohol and caffeine immediately after your session, as they can interfere with hydration and recovery.
Activity & Movement
-
If your treatment included abdominal or core areas, try to avoid lifting more than 15 pounds (7 kg) for two weeks.
-
Gentle bodyweight movement (such as walking, light stretching, tai chi, or mobility work) is encouraged to maintain blood flow and support healing.
-
Listen to your body, mild soreness is normal, but pain or strain is not.
-
Apply heat as needed.
Breathing & Relaxation
-
Take warm baths and practice diaphragmatic breathing to help reduce tension and promote circulation.
-
Incorporate gentle breathing exercises, mindful movement, or progressive muscle relaxation to support both physical and mental recovery.
-
Prioritize healthy stress release, try meditation, journaling, or spending time in nature to encourage your nervous system to rebalance.
General Tips
-
Rest if you feel fatigued, healing requires energy.
-
Eat nourishing, whole foods to support tissue repair.
-
Avoid applying ice unless specifically instructed by your therapist, as warmth generally aids the healing response.
-
Swelling, redness, and petichiae can be normal after treatment and should abate after 5-10 days. If you notice any raised bruising, please go to your nearest emergency department. This can be a sign of a hematoma.
